Changes To NSW Fisheries Gamefish Tagging Program

Whilst ANSA NSW has been an enthusiastic and passionate supporter of the NSW Fisheries Gamefish tagging program, we have modified the program slightly to dovetail with our principles and motto, ‘sport, conservation and integrity’.

Our tagging species list adopts 97% of the program, with the only species being abandoned are the few that have a very minor chance of appearing in our state waters.

The only direct changes we have made are the adoption of a minimum size limit of 500mm or 50 cm. With the current trend of tagging fish at a competition level, we wanted to protect the smaller gamefish from any undue stress and harm inflicted by the current size of tags available. Tagging a horde of 20-30 cm Mahi Mahi is a good way to generate points, but a 100mm tag is an unnecessary burden for a juvenile fish to overcome as well as the trauma of catching, handling and releasing.
